The PCS full form – Provincial Civil Service, is generally referred to as a state-level civil service exam of Group A and Group B of the state service of the executive branch of the government of Uttar Pradesh. It is a multi-layered state civil service exam for recruiting its employees. Moreover, this exam is conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC).
What is Provincial Civil Service (PCS) and their responsibilities:
As we already saw that PCS is an administrative civil service exam, under Group A state service. It is also considered the feeder service for Indian Administrative Service in a particular state. Where, the PCS full form is Provincial Civil Service, PCS officers are often posted as additional divisional commissioners, of the respective state. Whereas, most divisions generally, have two or are then two posts, the most popular of them are the Assistant Commissioner (Development), Assistant Commissioner (Revenue), and Assistant commissioner (Executive).
Qualification for PCS:
- The candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree from any recognized university or must have an equivalent qualification.
- Here, the minimum age for applying for PCS is that the candidate is 21 years, and the maximum age is 40 years.
- Moreover, the candidate must undergo certain tests for eligibility for the specific post.
- The posts that the candidate should undergo verification and need for these physical measurement exams are – Assistant Conservator of Forest, Range Forest Officer, District Commandant Home Guards, and Dy. Superintendent of Police, Superintendent of Jail, and Excise Inspector.

But, later the number of job vacancies increased from 251 to 677 posts.
